I am 39 weeks with my second and very anxious! I had an internal yesterday and found out I was 3 cm and 80% effaced. I went ahead and had him strip my membranes and I am still here today feeling very little labor action. I am just surprised. I thought I would have more going on. Anyone else in the same boat?

what does it mean when they strip your membranes??

It is basically an intense pelvic exam that tries to seperate your amniotic sac away from your pelvis hopefully releasing prostoglandins to start contractions. It kind of hurts but it works for a lot of women. Hope that helps!

I am in the exact boat! Mine have been 2x. Im 2 cm and 50% last I was told (Tues)

Well I had mine done at 35 weeks and 1-2 cm, now at 37 weeks I am 4cm. I'm not sure how effaced I am but I go back Tuesday to have it done again and I am hoping that it works. I read that only 1 in 7 will go into labor from this. I hope it works for you!

I have never known anyone thathas had this done before and it sounds like it would be pretty uncomfortable. Jenny- anything before 37 weeks is considered preterm right? Why would your doctor want you to go into labor at 35 weeks anyway?? I think its better that it didn't work for you. 4cm is pretty good and sounds like you'll be going very soon!! Good luck :)

I know how you feel. I am 40 weeks, 3 days, 100% effaced, my baby is lower than any other baby my OB has ever seen (and has been for weeks). Problem is since baby's head is so low and my cervix is behind his head, she can hardly reach it. Yesterday she was able to strip my membranes (yeah!!) but still nothing. I've been spotting and had more mucus discharge, but no change in my contractions. I'm going to be induced at the end of next week, but I REALLY want to go into labor on my own. I hate this waiting game! Just know that you are not alone.

Thanks for all the responses! Still nothing... I get induced on Tuesday so I really don't have a lot of room to complain, but I would also like to go into labor on my own. I think I have started to lose my plug and I was up in the middle of the night for a couple of hours with contractions but nothing hurt bad enough to call the dr. in the middle of the night. Woke up this morning and felt fine. What is up with that?
