sorry if this makes me sound stupid but i really have to ask. I went into labour on sunday the 18th of November, arrived at the hospital around 11:30 - 12:00 that night. I saw the midwife and was told i was only 4cms, the next time i saw anybody my babys head was coming out. A different midwife came in when my mum buzzed for someone and shouted to the other midwife " oh weve got membranes, quick! weve got membranes" .... i asked what this meant and her reply was "weve got membranes" so i still didnt really get an answer! Can anyone explain this to me?

I think in pregnancy membranes refer to the sac of waters... but I don't know what it means when they were hollering "we've got membranes" and your baby's head was already coming out. Maybe your water was breaking then?????

It may have been that your sac of waters had not broken yet and that was what they saw. So, you baby was still inside the sac but coming starting to come out anyway. They may have broken your waters for you, or they may have ruptured shortly there after.
