Mucous Plug Or Spotting

I'm two days past my 38th week mark. I was advised to go to labor and delivery this past Saturday when I was having regular contractions, but as they never progressed or got stronger, they sent me home after two cervical exams. I was dilated to 2cm and hadn't changed while being there. When I got up off the bed to leave, there was quite a bit of blood on the sheets, which I know is normal after an exam, although I've been checked quite a bit lately and haven't bled like that before. Anyways, everyday since then I have had clumps and particles here and there that are brown when I use the toilet. I know that I lost a large part of my mucous plug a few weeks ago, but maybe I'm still losing some? What's coming out now is not at all mucous like, it's more of what I would call "particles" accompanied here and there by a "clot" so I'm wondering if it's still spotting from the exam, and if that's normal. I have an appointment today, but wondered if anyone had any insight on this.

personally that doesnt sound normal to me. My mucus plus was clear and gooey, not clumps. I would call the doc.

Jenessa I had my internal exam yesterday and have been spotting ever since.

It could be more of the mucous plug. Although mine never had any clots in it at all. It was brown and clumpy though.. it was in fact mixed with mucous. I think you should call your ob's office.. ask some questions. Just to be safe. Good luck ~Kristin~

Thanks for the responses. At my appointment that day I was told it was normal. I was told it was a combination of both spotting from the exam and pieces of the mucous plug. There was just more brown then there was mucous, which I could barely see.
