Question On Dialation Mucus Plug

Once you loose 1/2 or all your mucus plug and start to dialate. Is there anyway that you can form more mucus and undialate? I'm 34 weeks and have lost 1/2 my mucus plug and dialated 1 cent. I have been like this since 32 weeks and the Dr. has me on semi bed rest.

hi. it is not my personal experience but i have read here several ladies that say their mucus plug seems to have regenerated once they have lost it...

Yes, your body will continue to regenerate the plug everyday. I lost the whole thing at 32 weeks when I was 1 cm... yet, 2 days later I lost more and then about every 2 days (sometimes everyday) I lose more and more. It just keeps coming out as it regenerates... Not sure why a doctor would put you on bedrest because of that.. I lost my plug at 32 weeks in which I was 1 cm and effacing, etc. at 35 weeks I had the actual bloody show and was 2 cm.. 36 weeks I was 3cm, same with 37 week and 38 weeks... 3 cm and 80% effaced. Now I am 39 weeks and 4 cm dilated and fully effaced. They thought there was no way I was making it to my due date just because I lost the plug and was starting to dilate at 32 weeks, now it looks like I may have to be induced. Yikes!!! I was never put on bedrest or anything and still made it this far. You just never know!!!

Why would you have to be induced, Daniella? Does there appear to be a problem?

Daniella - I just saw the post about your dh on leave... I guess that's why? I'm so sorry!!!!

Daniella - May 3

nope... because I am approaching my due date. If I hit my due date, then they will induce me. They thought I wouldn't even make it full term, yet here I am on 39+ weeks. Go figure!! just no way to know!

Alycia - May 3

Why will they induce you on your due date? You're not really late until 42 weeks... it doesn't make sense to induce before then unless there are signs of a problem. Unless you want them to, of course...

Alycia- You're not really late until 42 weeks because they give or take 2 weeks. Usually because most don't know exactly when conception took place, so they give a 2 week grace. Anyhow, we know our exact date, etc. Yet, that doesn't matter.... each hospital, doctor, etc. is different. Not to mention each patient. I was measuring dead on each visit since they started measuring the fundal height. Well, at my 38 week visit, I measured 37 weeks. Not too bad, but for some reason less. Then at my 39 week apt. I measured only 36 weeks. So, 3 weeks off. Baby hasn't moved down any further, so its not that. They think he may have stopped growing. I honestly have no problem staying pregnant until I go into labor on my own. In fact, I am opting a drug free pregnancy. Yet, if he's not progressing anymore, there really isn't any point in him staying past my due date. That only increases risks for problems. Not to mention I am 4 cm dilated and am open to infection. A lot of women are admitted to the hospital at 4cm. Yet, I didn't want to be. I said, I am not staying there to be induced until I go into labor on my own. So, they are allowing me to try. I do not want pitocin or anything like that. I was just saying how odd it is that what was once thought to be preterm labor, now looks like I might be overdue. So, there is no way to know when one will actually go into labor. Regardless of losing the mucus plug or how dilated you are.

At least you're so physically ready that pitocin probably won't be necessary. It sounds like all you'd need is a teensy-weensy bit of cervical ripening agent! Have you tried anything like nipple stimulation yet? I wish you the best of luck, and I'm so glad you made it this far.

Thanks Alycia- Well, my cervix is fully effaced (thinned) and at least 4 cm. So, its just the watiing game until nature takes it course, ya know! I've been real crampy this morning and having lots of globs of that mucus stuff come out so I think I might be starting to dilate even more. The doctor said the only reason whats holding the baby back is the fact that my membranes are so thick. When I had them stripped 2 days ago, he said that it was really tough. I guess if you eat a good diet and take your vitamins, etc. (just are healthy) the sac will be more thicker than, say, if you are + for GBS. or if you lack nutrients, etc. Alycia- funny thing is, I had lost a baby right before this pregnancy at 12 weeks. His heartbeat had stopped and I had surgery. I got pregnant first ovulation after the surgery (only 5 weeks) without having a period. So, they also thought that may be way I was having possible preterm labor. SInce I got pregnant so soon. Well, I am living proof that its OK to get pregnant back to back. The female body is real strong!!!
