Sciatica Please I Need Help

Starting on Sunday, my sciatic nerve is hurting me so badly I can hardly move. It brings tears to my eyes and keeps me up all night. I stayed home from work yesterday b/c of the pain and my lack of sleep the night before. Doctor told me I could take Unisolm to sleep, which I did last night. So I finally got a decent night's sleep, but my sciatic nerve is still sending shooting pains down my leg everytime I move! Heat works when it is applied, but that doesn't last. I have more than 5 weeks left, and I cannot stay home from work, but this is close to unbarable. What can I do? Please help, any suggestion would be welcomed!

Hi- have you tried going to a chiropractor? I had severe sciatic nerve pain for a month or so, and with regular adjustments, it has mostly disappeared. The chiropractor also had me wear a pregnancy support belt- I can't wear it when I sit, but whenever I'm up walking around, it seems to help too. Good luck!

I don't know if this will help - it also depends upon how deep your bathtub can get. I have bad backpain too - I fill up the tub high - lukewarm and comfy temp - then like a beach whale I flip over on my tummy and just sorta float - leaning my arms on the bottom of the tub - IT'S LIKE HEAVEN and takes so much pressure off my spine, back etc...if your tub is too small - you could try going to a local YMCA and floating in a pool. The other thing that helps me is acupuncture BUT you really only want to go to someone who is experienced doing the treatment on preggers women...I hope that helps - there is really nothing worse than sciatic nerve pain and I really emphathize with you!

OMG! My tub is really deep, I am trying that tonight! Hope it helps. I thought about acupuncture too, but it's kind of expensive around here. Not sure about the chiropractor, I've never been to one, I am one of those who thinks that once you start getting adjustments, you can't stop! Definitely floating in my tub tonight, I'll let you know if it works!!

I also went to the Chiropractor when I was pregnant with my daughter and it helped SO MUCH!! My sciatica was so bad I could hardly walk. You dont have to keep going once you start either only when you need it. They can really do amazing things. Mine even helps with husbands allergies.

My doctors told me to take Tylenol at the recommended dosage at the reccomended times. (i.e. 2 every 4-6 hours, around the clock) The nurse told me that it would help the tylenol get into my system to help dull the pain - and it could be coincidence, but mine went away a couple days after doing this. Mine was so bad I couldn't sit, stand, walk, or even lie down without being nearly in tears! I hope you find something that helps you. Oh, mine came back later in my pregnancy too, a week or so before I gave birth, but went away again a couple days before I gave birth.
