Stabbing Pains

This is my first baby and I am not sure what these pains are. It feels like someone is inside of me with a knife stabbing downward trying to get out. Is this a sign?

I have that, too. It just means the baby is pressing on a nerve. It started for me a couple of weeks ago, so I asked my nurse pract_tioner and that's what she told me. Also, since then, alot of other women have told me that they got the same thing during their pregnancies. Completely normal.

hmm i felt this a few times too. the last time i felt it i was sitting in cla__s and it would hurt wheni would breathe in so i wouldnt take full breaths.i asked to go to the nurse and when i started walking around i pain went away. i told my nurse about it. and she said it was just gas. :/ kinda silly yah i know that that sharp stabbing pain would be gas but it was. my nurse told to me to try moving and the pain would go away and it does. hope this helped. C: thanks and god bless.

i would say they were contractions, but i have been having mild contractions and they feel like they start from the bottom and go up not down...... so it's prob the baby pressing on a nerve or far are you?

Hm thats what labor felt like to me! Stabbing pains that were regular though not sporadic.

Im with Mrs Steve on this one. A while ago in my pregnancy i sufferred these terrible pains in my left side. Sometimes they were so bad i could barely walk. I went to the doctor about this and spoke to my midwife, they both said that it was my precious little one laying on my nerve. If this is what you are experiencing then i really do sympathise with you. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

not to be TMI but the pains are between my legs, like on my cervix. my hips are starting to hurt again too...i guess she is getting ready to make her appearance.

I have had that too, but for 3 weeks now. It happenend after the baby dropped and I think it has to do with that??? for me anyways. I am 37 weeks and dialated to 3....please just make this happen already, I can't take it anymore. I was at 2cm and 75% effaced at 35 weeks, 3cm at 36 and the same at 37:(...The anticipation and fear of the unknown in killing me!

I am having the same thing. Last night I spent two hours trying to get the pain to stop. I found that sitting on the floor with my legs crossed seemed to help releave the pressure. I am only 34 w 3d. I am a little worried that I am already dialating. The baby dropped about 2 weeks ago and he seems to be dropping even further every day. I feel like I am walking around trying to hold a bowling ball inside of I have my first internal exam this afternoon. I am worried that they are going to tell me that I have already started dialating... At my ultrasound they said that I was about 2 weeks farther along than the LMP due date. The baby has been measureing big for the last 2 appointments... Do you think they will move my due date? I don't notice actual contractions, just stabbing pain and pressure along with a dull back ache.... It's not regular though, just when it feels like it.

Most Dr's won't change a due date. He may just be ready to come out sooner...I wouldn't worry too much you only have 3 weeks until he is full term. And if you are like me you can be dialated for weeks. I have heard it just means better odds for a faster delivery:)
