I've read that you want to keep it aired out....but is it ok to put onesies on your baby for example when bringing her home from the hospital? I'm confused on whether to pack onesies for the hospital or if i need to get some t-shirt type outfits to bring her home in?

Your fine to put your baby in a onsie when you leave the hospital. When they say aired out, it just means that you don't want to soak it or get it wet during baths. :o)

I used a t shirt becuse i found that they onesies pulled and rubbed at the stump

Anyone using those belly binder things? My MIL got me a bunch of them, but don't know if I should use them? Anyone used them before?

Good question. I didn't even think about that. It's like I'm starting all over again since my youngest is 10 yrs old so I've forgotten a lot since then. I think I will dress my baby girl in her "going home" outfit then let her wear t-shirts around the house until her belly b___ton heals. I do remember that the pampers with the cutout notches helps because they don't rub against it and get it all irritated. Yes it will start to smell if you don't keep it clean and dry. With my first two babies, I got a bunch of alcohol pads from the hosp. and gently wiped the stump to keep it clean and from infection, then I would put a drop of olive oil to keep it from drying out and tie a band around it (got that from granny) Never had any problems and they both have the cutest little b___tons. Good Luck.

A belly binder is basically a piece of cloth designed to supposedly keep the stump in place and preventing it from popping out. It is the band Starr is talking about, I guess it is really old-fashioned custom

starr - sorry Im new at all this baby stuff - but isn't the stump supposed to dry out? Why does olive oil help? with healing? thanks :)

SuzieQ, the olive oil is to keep it from getting all dried and crusty. It will fall off when it's time, but you don't want it to get all crusty. You don't have to soak it, a little drop will do. And yes, the belly band is a very old fashioned custom that a lot of people don't even know about. It's not required to do, but my family always did it. I never bought any bands but I made my own. ~~~Congrats~~~

My mom made me a belly binder...we used it alot in our country..(philippines) its a piece of cloth (usually white) and you wrapped it around baby's belly (around his or her navel) it works really great.
