Hi all - Just wanted to let you know I had my appointment with the midwife last week. As suspected, she transferred me to the high-risk OB/GYN department, due to my history of high blood pressure throughout my pregnancy. I had my follow-up appointment with the doctors yesterday and everything went so well! Everyone was so nice (a very big contrast from my last clinic). I met with both the staff OB and a perinatologist. They will continue to monitor me and the baby closely (weekly Non Stress Tests and at least one more ultrasound), but they suspect I'm correct about my "white coat" hypertension theory. I'm going to buy a bp cuff and take my own readings at home. If they stay as low as they have been at the pharmacy, the doctors mentioned possibly taking me off the blood pressure medication. Sounds a little better than being strapped to a table during labor, as my last doctor suggested. : ) --Greta

I just responded to your other topic!! I have a blood pressure machine at home...bought the one that cost about $30.00 at Wal-Mart, and I love it. I think it's really important to have. I hope in your case that you're right. I know that's not my case though, and just know that's how it's gotta be. I was confined to the bed with my first too. Having the catheder in was actually a relief, because it was one less thing I had to worry about!

My mother was considered high risk with me actually. She turned out to have doctor induced hypertension. Her bp went up to 200/150--yes 200/150-- during her doctors visits; so she was hospitalized. Her midwife found that the second the doctor left the room her bp went rapidly down to 120/80. My mother has always had a fear of hospitals and a poor doctor-patient relationship did not help matters.

Traci, Bedrest and a cath? Wow, I'm sorry it came to that! Thanks for the Wal-Mart tip. I'll check them out. --Greta

Roary, Thanks for sharing; knowing I'm not the only one make me feel less crazy! : ) I know what you mean about the doc-patient relationship; having a more understanding doctor has totally changed the dynamic of my pregnancy for the better. --Greta
