Will Stripping Membranes Induce Labor

i was just wondering if stripping membranes will induce labor ? i go to the dr. on thursday and i was gonna ask him to do it b/c i have been swelling like crazy, and i have been having problems with my blood pressure ! i will be 38 weeks thursday. is this too early??

No it's not too early, however stripping membranes does not always work. My doc did it at 38 weeks and nothing happened, he did it again 4 days later and I went into labor later that night. I don't really know if it was because he stripped my membranes or it was just coincidence. Your doc will more than likely do it anyway since you're having problems with your blood pressure, I was as well so that's why mine did.

i sure do hope so because if i go into labor at 39 weeks, then i will have exactly 6 weeks of maternity leave before i go back to work !!

I am glad you asked this! My doc is thinking of stripping mine at my next appt (37.5 weeks) and I was wondering how often it worked. I have heard through the grapevine it only works if you are 2cm or more dialated and more than 50% effaced. I am sure those are very iffy stats, but that is just what I have been told.
