Postpartum Bleeding---Part Two

When to be Concerned About Postpartum Bleeding

Not all postpartum bleeding is healthy. Known as postpartum hemorrhage, this abnormal postpartum bleeding can lead to significant blood loss and possibly even death if it is not treated quickly. Signs to look out for include:

  • Your sanitary pad becomes soaked in less than an hour
  • You smell a foul odor in your discharge
  • Your clots are the size of golf balls or are larger
  • You start to feel faint or even dizzy

If you experience any of these symptoms, or are just worried about your postpartum bleeding, contact your health care provider right away. If you feel weak or faint and are bleeding heavily, go to the nearest emergency room.
